7 Things That People Misjudge About Low Carb Diet

There are a lot of misconceptions about low-carb diets. Almost every “anti-low carb” information or news report says the same thing: reduced-carb diets don’t have enough fruits and vegetables, and even often draw an image of people eating unhealthy diet.

The reality, low-carb diets concentrate on healthy food, nutritious, and research into reducing carbs continues to show more and more positive results.

Here are the misconceptions and the truths about low-carb diets to set your own mind at easiness and help you inform others.

1. Consuming Low Carb = Courting Heart Disease

In study after study, cholesterol, blood pressure, triglycerides, and other indications for heart disease risk decline on low-carb diets. Also, in one large long term study, even low-carb diets with a lot of animal protein and fat did not raise the risk of heart disease.

2. Eating Fruits and Vegetables not Allowed on Low-Carb Diets

7. Low-Carb Diets will “Leach” All The Calcium from Your Bones

The reasoning goes that low-carb diets are always high in protein. People on higher protein diets are likely to have more calcium in their urine. But this turns out to be a red herring. This has been proven NOT to be true. In fact, it turns out that protein, rather than cause bone loss, actually protects our bones.

Why do low carb diets work? ?

I ask because most carbohydrates are naturally low in calories and fat, so how come these low carb diets seem to work? thanks

I was on Atkins for about a year. From what I learned, and what I understand, Low Carb diets work this way:

Your body usually gets it’s energy by burning off carbohydrates and sugars that you eat. With a low carb diet, you are cutting out carbohydrates and sugars, therefor, your body had to get its energy from somewhere, so it starts to burn your stored up body fat for energy. That is why you lose so much weight in such a short period of time. First though, you have to go through “ketosis”, which takes a week or two, and that is where your body switching from using its system of burning carbs to burning fat. You won’t notice much difference until you are done with ketosis. They have keto strips you can buy so you can frequently check what stage of ketosis you are in, btw.

I lost 40 pounds in four months, but i have a few warnings for you if you want to do low carb.

Firstly, you will feel pretty tired most of the time. You aren’t getting the kind of energy that your body naturally likes, so, it makes your energy level low.
Secondly, with a low carb diet, you CANNOT stray from your diet, or you have to start all over again. That is because, once again, of the ketosis. If you slip and eat more than about 20 carbs throughout a day, you will set your ketosis back to it’s original form.
Third, low carb diets seem great, but honestly, they are not good for a life changing diet. Within the year after i lost all my weight, i gained it all back and then some, as are most stories i hear. That is because low carb sets you up for reacting to carbohydrates poorly.

Right now I am on weight watchers, and I really suggest that. It is the only diet that is not a “diet” but is a way to help you learn how to eat correctly for your entire life. I have a relative who has been extremely overweight her entire life, has tried every diet (including an array of low carbs) and has finally, at the age of 50, lost all of her weight because of weight watchers.

Either way, I know I wrote a lot, but I come from a lot of experience. Good Luck for whatever you chose! and don’t forget to exercise, because I have been reading a lot that eating right alone is not going to do much.
